Alcoa expects no effect on alumina plant from Dolly
NEW YORK, July 23 (Reuters) - Alcoa Inc's Point Comfort alumina refinery in Texas would operate normally on Wednesday, despite the approach of Hurricane Dolly to areas south of the facility, a company spokeswoman said Wednesday.
"Point Comfort is operating as normal. They really don't anticipate any events (from the hurricane), except for heavy rains," the spokeswoman told Reuters.
Hurricane Dolly strengthened as it neared southern Texas, and was forecast to lash low-lying areas on the U.S.-Mexico border with torrential rain when it comes ashore around mid-day.
Dolly should hit Texas about 200 miles away from Alcoa's Point Comfort alumina refinery, which is about 125 miles southwest of Houston.
Point Comfort supplies alumina, the compound from which aluminum is made, to Alcoa's global aluminum smelter system.
