China aluminum output cuts may total 1.5 mln tons over a year - Citigroup
Ongoing aluminum output reductions in China due to energy shortfalls may total 1.5 mln tons over a 12-month period, Citigroup said.
"The recent Chinese production cuts of 5-10 pct could see further losses of 750,000 (tons) to 1.5 mln tons on a full-year basis. But we do not expect all Chinese producers to implement reductions," it said.
Earlier this month, China's top 20 aluminum smelters -- including Aluminum Corp of China Ltd (Chalco) -- agreed to cut output between 5-10 pct in a bid to reduce power consumption and push up prices.
The 20 smelters account for around 70 pct of the country's total aluminium production.
