MARYVILLE (AP) -- Aluminum maker ALCOA says it will lose between 30 and 60 workers in East Tennessee through voluntary separations.
The jobs will be cut in the Rigid Packaging Division of the company's operations in Alcoa.
The company and United Steelworkers Local 309 announced Thursday they've reached agreement on a plan to restructure hourly positions by offering the buyouts.
Officials say the workers taking the separation packages come from various departments and include a cross section of ages, jobs and skills.
ALCOA spokeswoman Melissa Copelan says the reductions are not related to the company's global restructuring, announced a couple of weeks ago, in which five percent of ALCOA's jobs will be cut.
Copelan says some of the North Plant workers taking the buyout are expected to exercise it next month. Others will probably do so later next year.
